Big fish were staging in the Hamburg area last week, 18 to 25 ft ., when we had all that hot weather; surface temps at times were 50 to 53 degrees. Some nice fish were also showing up in the Buffalo Harbor area. Also big fish being caught off Cattaraugus Creek in 50 to 52 ft of water. It is starting to heat up!

According to local news sources, the removal of the Niagara ice boom will begin on 4/15/08. We have gone well under the required 250 sq. ft. of ice, left on the lake and the boom can now be removed. This process may take up to three days, but once removed, the rest of the ice on the lake, will quickly dissipate and move down the Niagara River. A sure sign of spring!

As of today, the south shore of the lake, from about Cleveland, OH to the mouth of the Niagara River, still has a solid ice cover. Reports were that the ice boom was supposed to be removed soon. When that happens, the ice should start breaking up, along with warmer temperatures predicted for the upcoming week. Hopefully, spring is finally here!
